The Vietnamese government has decided to prioritize the construction of two high-speed railroad lines in the north before 2030, including one connecting with China.
They are the Hanoi – Lang Son line, which will extend to the Chinese border, and a line connecting Hanoi with Lao Cai Province, passing through the port city of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh Province.
Both lines will become part of the north-south high-speed rail route.
The decision by the Government Office is part of a broader strategy for the Red River Delta’s development to enhance transport infrastructure, reduce congestion, and promote economic growth.
According to the National Assembly delegate Tran Van Tuan, the high-speed line should be built soon because the cost is not too high and it is feasible to start work before 2030.
“Once completed, the line could become immediately operational since China already has a modern, integrated railway system.”
