Suomikauppa.fi is an online store that offers a wide range of Finnish products, including food, snacks, drinks, and other specialty items. It’s a great way for people who are interested in Finnish culture and cuisine to explore and enjoy traditional Finnish products. The products are sourced from top Finnish brands and producers, ensuring that you get authentic Finnish products.
“Suomikauppa wants to get in touch with Finns abroad. One of these regions is Southeast Asia, where Finns long for the tastes and products of their childhood,” Office Assistant Laura Aho explains.
“It is always nice to receive positive feedback that the food tastes good. It tells us that we are doing the right thing.”
“But we are not only targeting the Finns. We sell quite a lot to companies and associations, through which the locals get to know about high-quality Finnish products.”
Rye bread is Suomikauppa’s bestseller. But high on the list are also classics like Fazer’s milk chocolate, Turku mustard, and “salmiakki.” In addition, seasonal products like chocolate Christmas calendars, Mignon eggs, and Moomin products are also popular.
Suomikauppa uses mainly FedEx services for Southeast Asia, except in Thailand where EMS is popular.
Delivery times varies between different countries and regions. Fedex priority arrives in country capitals in about 3-4 business days, while delivery to remote areas may in extreme cases take even two weeks. Fedex economy usually takes 1-2 weeks to arrive. In remote areas the required time is naturally longer than this.
Delivery fees depend on the weight of the products and the delivery method. Suomikauppa uses the transport prices that the transport companies use, which is why weight matters. If you are in Southeast Asia, Fedex Priority is quite cheap up to 10kg.
Customs fees are not included in Suomikauppa’s prices, so the customer should check the the local regulations. This is important because some countries are strict about bringing food items into the country.
“Every country has its traditions and customs. For example, in the Philippines it is normal for the courier to ask for a tip for home delivery, which increases delivery costs. Of course, we don’t necessarily know all these details, so it’s always good to know local regulations and practices in advance,” Laura advices.
She also has some tips for newcomers.
“If you live in a hot country, I would recommend not ordering chocolate. Finnish chocolate is best stored at temperatures below 20 degrees, and in some cases the fat may go rancid.”
“In some cases it’s also better to order together with a friend. This way you will save in delivery fees.”
“Also, if you can’t find a certain product in the store, feel free to ask,” Laura says. “We are doing our best to add the requested product into the our selection.”
