Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) are officially banned in the Philippines, according to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
He has instructed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation to wind down and cease the operations of POGOs by the end of the year.
Opposition to POGOs is mounting, with several lawmakers urging the President to completely ban them in the Philippines, because they have “made the country a fertile ground for various crimes.”
The critics also cite the minimal economic contribution compared to significant social costs, including links to criminal activities such as human trafficking, kidnapping, and money laundering.
