The Indian and Lao governments have launched a project to build the Nam Xang storage dam and irrigation system in Kaenthao district, Xayaboury province.
The project is funded by a loan of US$14.7 million from the EXIM Bank of India and will run for 24 months.
An irrigation system will be built to supply water to more than 1,000 hectares of farmland in the rainy season and to 850 hectares in the dry season.
It is estimated that almost 300 families in six villages in the Kaenthao district will benefit from the scheme.
