Thailand has agreed to send 900 berry pickers to Finland this year, Minister of Labor, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, confirms.
“The Ministry of Labor is ready and willing to send Thai workers to pick berries in Finland as soon as possible, if it complies with the conditions discussed and agreed upon with the Minister of Employment of Finland and his team.”
According to Phiphat, the Finnish government needs to send the documents to the Royal Thai Embassy in Helsinki. Once they are verified, the Ministry of Labor is ready to send workers in time for Finland’s berry harvest season.
“We hope that Thai workers will be sent to pick berries in Finland as soon as possible, because we currently have a high demand for workers,” Minister of Employment at the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, Arto Satonen, says.
In the past, Thai pickers came on tourist visas, but this year the Finnish government has strictly examined the employment contracts before issuing residence visas and work permits.
Workers must also have employment contracts, legal 8-hour working days, and receive wages as stipulated by the Finnish government.
