Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment has announced that plastic imports have decreased by about 50% in late 2023.
Plastic imports in the fourth quarter of 2023 declined by 32.2 tonnes, a drop of around 50% compared to the third quarter, the Undersecretary of State Khvay Atiya confirms.
That’s not all. Last month saw 12 tonnes of plastic imported, a drop of about 80% on January 2023, when over 60 tonnes were imported.
Atiya claims that public awareness has increased through the government’s “Today I will not use plastic” campaign, which has reached almost four million people.
