China’s first homegrown passenger jet C919 manufactured by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), has made its first trip outside Chinese territory, staging a fly-by at the Singapore Airshow.
China has invested heavily in its attempt to break the hold of the dominant Boeing and Airbus on the global passenger market.
COMAC is only certified within China, and the first of now four C919s began flying with China Eastern Airlines last year.
The company will invest tens of billions of yuan over the next 3-5 years to expand C919 production capacity, Chinese media reports.
China’s aviation authority is currently pursuing European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) validation for the C919.
